HIGH-END CIGAR HUMIDOR WATERLOO ROSEWOOD BURLThe Waterloo humidor belongs to a rare collector series of three pieces, each created from a different noble wood and interpreted through historical gemstone inlay. This example, executed in rosewood, represents one of the three humidors produced for the Waterloo edition.
The underside of the humidor features the national flags of France and the United Kingdom rendered in natural stone inlay using mother of pearl, Afghan lapis lazuli and Ural jasper. These minerals introduce both symbolic color and refined texture while maintaining the noble character of the wooden surface.
The lid is decorated with the coats of arms of Napoleonic France and the United Kingdom. Beneath them are integrated reproductions of historical medals connected with the events surrounding the Battle of Waterloo.
Among these is the Saint Helena Medal, established in 1857 by Emperor Napoleon III to honor soldiers who had served in the campaigns of Napoleon I. Another commemorative medal, commissioned by Sir William Wellesley Pole, brother of the Duke of Wellington, depicts the Prince Regent and, on the reverse, a seated figure of Victory with the inscription “Waterloo” and the date June 18, 1815.
Rather than illustrating history through narrative imagery, the Waterloo humidor expresses historical memory through materials and craftsmanship. Heraldic symbols, medals and national motifs are integrated directly into the cabinet structure through gemstone inlay.
Crafted in rosewood and lined with Spanish cedar for proper cigar preservation, the humidor functions simultaneously as a precision cigar storage instrument and as a collectible object where European history, cabinetmaking and gemstone artistry meet.
The Waterloo Rosewood humidor approaches historical symbolism through structural integration rather than surface ornament. Heraldic emblems and commemorative medals are embedded directly into the cabinet architecture through gemstone inlay, allowing historical narrative to emerge from material composition.
The deep tones of rosewood create a natural counterbalance to the brightness of lapis lazuli, mother of pearl and jasper, producing a refined dialogue between wood and mineral surfaces.
Produced as part of a three-piece series, the humidor represents a convergence of historical reference, traditional cabinetmaking and gemstone craftsmanship within a collectible cigar object.
THE ARTISTRY OF MATERIALSRoyal Blue Lapis Lazuli. Lapis lazuli, the gem variety of lazurite and one of the most beautiful opaque gemstones. Known as “sapphires” by the ancients, the stone occurs in only a few major deposits around the world. The most prized lapis is a dark, nearly blackish blue, much deeper than turquoise and more intense than sodalite or azurite. Pyrite, a commonly associated mineral, is often liberally sprinkled throughout lapis specimens, to create a striking combination of rich blue and brassy gold.
Red Jasper. The unique artistry of Jasper is that of Nature itself - red rock canyons. Each stone is a masterpiece of the Creator. Red Jasper is red to terracotta brown, stone of physical strength and energy.
Mother of Pearl is the nacreous inner shell coating of pearl-producing mollusks. Mother of pearl has been used for thousands of years; it was used by the ancient Egyptians and Sumerians. One of the best Mother of Pearl comes from Japan and Persian Gulf.
Rosewood. Origin: Tropical regions of South America and Asia.
Rosewood is prized for its deep reddish-brown tones and naturally dramatic grain patterns. The wood often displays rich contrasts between darker streaks and warm reddish hues, giving each piece a distinctive and elegant appearance. When finely polished, rosewood reveals a smooth, lustrous surface that highlights the natural depth and complexity of its figure.Cigar Box Spanish Cedar. Origin: Central and South America. Spanish cedar is a tropical hardwood found throughout Central and South America. It is one the world’s most important timber species. Esteemed for its aromatic and attractive pink to salmon-red wood, which is resistant to rotting and insects. Has a distinct, lingering, cedar-like scent; this characteristic of the wood makes it a favorite for humidor boxes.
