The Monolith Type 3 cigar ashtray is built around a circular low-profile composition defined by continuous radial geometry and restrained sculptural balance. Its broad horizontal form creates a stable visual mass, while the recessed central chamber introduces depth without interrupting the purity of the silhouette.
Designed with two elongated cigar grooves integrated directly into the upper structure, the object emphasizes symmetry, proportion and uninterrupted material flow. The softened transitions between recessed and elevated surfaces create controlled reflections across the obsidian body, allowing the volcanic glass to become the dominant visual element of the composition.
Crafted entirely from black obsidian, silver obsidian or mahogany obsidian, each variation produces a distinct optical character. Black obsidian creates a dense mirror-dark surface with maximum visual contrast, silver obsidian reveals flowing directional mineral reflections beneath the polished exterior, while mahogany obsidian introduces layered reddish-brown volcanic formations with warmer tonal depth.
The circular geometry and low architectural profile give the Type 3 a calmer and more restrained presence compared to sharply faceted objects within the Monolith collection. Its simplicity is intentional — reducing the object to form, balance and material intensity.

THE ARTISTRY OF MATERIALS
Obsidian (Volcanic Glass) — Origin: Armenia
Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed when silica-rich lava cools rapidly, preventing crystal formation and creating a dense amorphous structure. Armenia contains some of the most significant obsidian-bearing volcanic regions in the Caucasus, with deposits known for their dense structure, reflective depth and distinctive mineral movement.
In the Monolith Type 3, the polished curved geometry amplifies the optical character of volcanic glass.
Silver obsidian produces fluid metallic-like reflections beneath the surface, while mahogany obsidian reveals layered brown and reddish volcanic formations that shift visually depending on surrounding light. Unlike crystalline stone, obsidian reflects light with glass-like sharpness, creating a surface that appears simultaneously minimal, liquid and architecturally solid.
