HIGH-END CIGAR HUMIDOR WATERLOO BUBINGA BURLThe Waterloo humidor forms part of a rare three-piece collector series, each piece crafted from a different noble wood and interpreted through historical gemstone inlay. This example, executed in bubinga, represents one of only three humidors created for the Waterloo edition.
The underside of the humidor displays the national flags of France and the United Kingdom rendered in natural stone inlay using mother of pearl, Afghan lapis lazuli and Ural jasper. These materials introduce both symbolic color and mineral depth while preserving the refined character of the cabinet surface.
The lid carries the coats of arms of Napoleonic France and the United Kingdom. Beneath them are carefully integrated reproductions of historical medals connected to the events of the Battle of Waterloo.
Among them is the Saint Helena Medal, created in 1857 by Emperor Napoleon III to honor veterans who served under Napoleon I. Another commemorative medal was commissioned by Sir William Wellesley Pole, brother of the Duke of Wellington, shortly after the historic battle of June 18, 1815. It depicts the Prince Regent and, on the reverse, the figure of Victory with the inscription “Waterloo” and the name “Wellington”.
Rather than presenting history through narrative illustration, the Waterloo humidor interprets historical symbolism through materials and craftsmanship. Heraldic emblems, medals and national motifs are integrated directly into the cabinet structure through gemstone inlay.
Crafted in bubinga and lined with Spanish cedar for proper cigar preservation, the humidor functions both as a precision cigar storage instrument and as a collectible object where European history, cabinetmaking and gemstone artistry converge.
The Waterloo Bubinga humidor interprets historical symbolism through material integration rather than applied decoration. Heraldic emblems and commemorative medals are embedded directly into the cabinet surface using precision gemstone inlay, transforming the object into a structured historical artifact. The dense bubinga veneer introduces warmth and depth that contrasts with the mineral brightness of lapis lazuli, mother of pearl and jasper. This material dialogue creates a controlled balance between wood, stone and metal elements.Produced as part of a three-piece collector series, the humidor combines traditional cabinetmaking with historical narrative, positioning it as both a refined cigar storage instrument and a collectible object shaped by European history.
THE ARTISTRY OF MATERIALSRoyal Blue Lapis Lazuli. Lapis lazuli, the gem variety of lazurite and one of the most beautiful opaque gemstones. Known as “sapphires” by the ancients, the stone occurs in only a few major deposits around the world. The most prized lapis is a dark, nearly blackish blue, much deeper than turquoise and more intense than sodalite or azurite. Pyrite, a commonly associated mineral, is often liberally sprinkled throughout lapis specimens, to create a striking combination of rich blue and brassy gold.
Red Jasper. The unique artistry of Jasper is that of Nature itself - red rock canyons. Each stone is a masterpiece of the Creator. Red Jasper is red to terracotta brown, stone of physical strength and energy.
Mother of Pearl is the nacreous inner shell coating of pearl-producing mollusks. Mother of pearl has been used for thousands of years; it was used by the ancient Egyptians and Sumerians. One of the best Mother of Pearl comes from Japan and Persian Gulf.
Bubinga. Origin: Equatorial Africa. Heartwood ranges from a pinkish red to a darker reddish brown with darker purple or black streaks. Bubinga is very frequently seen with a variety of figure, including: pommele, flamed, waterfall, quilted, mottled, etc. Bubinga may be loved for its strength and beauty.
Cigar Box Spanish Cedar. Origin: Central and South America. Spanish cedar is a tropical hardwood found throughout Central and South America. It is one the world’s most important timber species. Esteemed for its aromatic and attractive pink to salmon-red wood, which is resistant to rotting and insects. Has a distinct, lingering, cedar-like scent; this characteristic of the wood makes it a favorite for humidor boxes.
