SOME OF THE GEMSTONES WE USE

Mother of Pearl. Origin: Japan, Persian Gulf

Mother of Pearl, also known as nacre, is the lustrous inner shell coating found in mollusks that produce pearls. These mollusks typically have three layers to their shell structure. The outermost layer is called the periostracum, followed by a layer of calcite, and the innermost layer is the nacre or mother-of-pearl. This smooth and iridescent part of the shell is produced by the mollusk's mantle as it grows.

The use of Mother of Pearl dates back thousands of years and has a rich history. It was utilized by ancient civilizations like the Egyptians and Sumerians for various purposes. Some of the finest Mother of Pearl is sourced from regions like Japan and the Persian Gulf, where the mollusks produce high-quality nacre with its characteristic iridescence. This exquisite material has been treasured for its beauty and has been incorporated into art, jewelry, and other decorative items throughout history.

Royal Blue Lapis Lazuli. Origin: Afghanistan

Royal blue lapis lazuli is the gem variety of the mineral lazurite and is renowned for its stunning opaque beauty. This sodium and aluminum mineral is quite complex in its composition. In ancient times, it was often referred to as "sapphires." Lapis lazuli is found in only a few major deposits worldwide, making it a rare and highly prized gemstone.

The most sought-after lapis lazuli exhibits a deep, nearly blackish blue color that is much richer than turquoise and more intense than other blue gemstones like sodalite or azurite. Pyrite, a commonly associated mineral, is frequently scattered throughout lapis lazuli specimens, creating a striking contrast of rich blue and bright brassy gold. This combination of deep blue and golden pyrite gives lapis lazuli its distinctive and captivating appearance, making it a treasured gemstone with a rich history of use in art and jewelry.
