OBSIDIAN CIGAR ASHTRAY TYPE 6 — BLACK, SILVER & MAHOGANY OBSIDIAN
The Monolith Type 6 cigar ashtray is conceived as a radial architectural form carved through sharp polygonal geometry and deep concentric recession. Its octagonal sculptural body surrounds a recessed circular chamber, creating a visual tension between crystalline faceting and smooth internal curvature.
Designed for four cigars, the composition integrates four recessed rests directly into the upper ring structure, preserving continuity across the faceted obsidian volume. The object appears carved from a single solid mass, where every angular transition amplifies the natural reflective intensity of volcanic glass.
Crafted entirely from black obsidian, silver obsidian or mahogany obsidian, each variation transforms the character of the piece. Black obsidian creates dense mirror-dark contrast with maximum visual depth, silver obsidian reveals flowing metallic mineral movement beneath the polished surface, while mahogany obsidian introduces layered reddish-brown volcanic formations with warmer tonal complexity.
Unlike softer circular forms, the Type 6 emphasizes fractured geometry and gemstone-like light behavior. Reflections break sharply across the carved planes, causing the ashtray to shift visually from every angle.
Compact yet monumental in presence, the Monolith Type 6 functions both as a refined four-cigar ashtray and as a collectible sculptural centerpiece shaped from natural volcanic glass.
The Monolith Type 6 ashtray is organized around a faceted octagonal structure with a recessed circular basin and four integrated cigar rests.
Its sharply carved obsidian planes create fractured reflections and strong shadow contrast across the polished volcanic glass surface. The interaction between angular geometry and the recessed center gives the object a dense crystalline presence.
The circular internal chamber softens the composition while preserving the monolithic architectural identity of the overall form.
THE ARTISTRY OF MATERIALS
Obsidian (Volcanic Glass) — Origin: Armenia
Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed when silica-rich lava cools so rapidly that crystal formation cannot occur. This creates a dense amorphous material capable of achieving extremely sharp carved transitions and highly reflective polished surfaces.
Armenian obsidian is recognized for its optical depth and mineral variation. Silver obsidian reveals directional metallic-like reflections caused by internal inclusions, while mahogany obsidian displays layered reddish-brown volcanic formations beneath darker surface tones.
In the Monolith Type 6, the faceted radial geometry intensifies these optical properties, causing light to fracture across the carved surfaces with gemstone-like sharpness and depth.
EXCLUSIVITY & HERITAGE
The Monolith collection explores the transformation of volcanic obsidian into collectible sculptural objects defined by precision carving and architectural geometry.
Every Type 6 ashtray is individually carved, polished and finished by hand. The production process requires extensive manual refinement to preserve uninterrupted reflections, sharp faceted transitions and exact radial symmetry throughout the composition.
Produced in limited quantities, each piece combines volcanic material intensity, geometric precision and collectible craftsmanship within a monolithic sculptural form designed for refined cigar environments.
