OBSIDIAN CIGAR ASHTRAY TYPE 5 — BLACK, SILVER & MAHOGANY OBSIDIAN
The Monolith Type 5 cigar ashtray is constructed around a faceted circular composition that combines sharp geometric carving with a recessed monolithic center. Unlike elongated or linear forms within the collection, Type 5 concentrates visual mass into a compact radial structure, creating a dense sculptural presence with gemstone-like geometry.
Its polygonal outer body is carved through a sequence of angular planes that surround a smooth circular basin, producing a deliberate contrast between crystalline sharpness and continuous curvature. The recessed cigar channel is integrated directly into the upper structure, preserving the purity and symmetry of the composition.
Crafted entirely from black obsidian, silver obsidian or mahogany obsidian, the ashtray reveals different optical behaviors depending on the selected material. Black obsidian produces deep mirror-like contrast with maximum visual density, silver obsidian introduces metallic directional reflections beneath the polished surface, while mahogany obsidian reveals layered volcanic brown formations with reddish undertones and natural movement.
The faceted geometry causes reflections to fracture across the object like cut volcanic crystal, amplifying the natural depth of obsidian and reinforcing the sculptural identity of the piece.
Compact yet visually dominant, the Monolith Type 5 functions both as a refined single-cigar ashtray and as a collectible architectural object shaped from natural volcanic glass.
The Monolith Type 5 ashtray is organized around a faceted radial structure with a recessed circular center and integrated single-cigar channel.
Its sharply carved polygonal surfaces create fragmented reflections and deep shadow contrast across the polished obsidian body. The interaction between angular geometry and the smooth recessed basin creates a controlled balance between sharpness and continuity.
The compact sculptural form gives the object strong visual density while preserving minimal functional precision.
THE ARTISTRY OF MATERIALS
Obsidian (Volcanic Glass) — Origin: Armenia
Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed when silica-rich lava cools rapidly without sufficient time for crystal formation. Its amorphous structure allows the material to achieve extremely sharp carved edges and highly reflective polished surfaces.
Armenian obsidian is recognized for its dense structure, optical depth and distinctive mineral movement. Silver obsidian reveals flowing metallic-like reflections created by internal inclusions, while mahogany obsidian displays layered reddish-brown volcanic formations against darker body tones.
In the Monolith Type 5, the faceted geometry intensifies these optical properties, causing light to break and shift across the carved planes with crystalline sharpness.
EXCLUSIVITY & HERITAGE
The Monolith collection explores the transformation of volcanic obsidian into collectible sculptural objects defined by precision carving and architectural geometry.
Every Type 5 ashtray is individually carved, polished and finished by hand. The production process requires extensive manual refinement to preserve uninterrupted reflections and exact faceted transitions throughout the polygonal composition.
Produced in limited quantities, each piece combines volcanic material intensity, geometric precision and collectible craftsmanship within a compact monolithic form.
