OBSIDIAN CIGAR ASHTRAY TYPE 15 — BLACK, SILVER & MAHOGANY OBSIDIAN
The Monolith Type 15 cigar ashtray is defined by a wide faceted octagonal composition shaped through clean architectural planes and a deeply recessed circular chamber. Sculpted entirely from natural volcanic obsidian, the object combines geometric sharpness with fluid reflective depth, creating a restrained yet monumental sculptural presence.
Its low-profile body is organized around elongated faceted surfaces that expand outward from the central basin, producing a powerful sense of radial balance and structural symmetry. The polished obsidian continuously transforms under light, allowing reflections to travel across the angular surfaces with gemstone-like intensity and visual movement.
Crafted from black obsidian, silver obsidian or mahogany obsidian, each variation reveals a unique optical identity. Black obsidian emphasizes deep mirror-like contrast and dense volcanic depth, silver obsidian introduces soft graphite-silver directional reflections beneath the polished surface, while mahogany obsidian displays layered reddish-brown volcanic textures with warmer tonal complexity.
Designed for four cigars, the recessed rests are integrated directly into the sculptural geometry, preserving uninterrupted continuity throughout the composition. The elevated outer structure contrasts with the smooth recessed interior chamber, reinforcing both the monolithic architectural language and practical cigar functionality.
Created for luxury cigar lounges, refined interiors and collectors of sculptural smoking accessories, the Monolith Type 15 combines volcanic material intensity, geometric precision and collectible contemporary design.
The Monolith Type 15 ashtray is structured around a faceted octagonal composition with a recessed circular basin and four integrated cigar rests.
Its elongated geometric planes create directional reflections across the polished volcanic glass surface, generating depth, symmetry and crystalline optical movement.
The contrast between the sharp faceted exterior and the smooth recessed interior reinforces the sculptural balance and architectural identity of the object while preserving refined cigar functionality.
THE ARTISTRY OF MATERIALS
Obsidian (Volcanic Glass) — Origin: Armenia
Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed through the rapid cooling of lava, producing a dense reflective material with exceptional optical depth and sharp fracture structure.
Armenian obsidian is valued for its purity, polished reflectivity and distinctive mineral character. Black obsidian reveals dense mirror-like contrast, silver obsidian produces flowing metallic directional reflections beneath the surface, while mahogany obsidian displays layered reddish-brown volcanic formations with natural tonal variation.
The faceted geometry of the Monolith Type 15 amplifies these optical properties, allowing light to move dynamically across the polished carved surfaces with crystalline precision and visual intensity.
EXCLUSIVITY & HERITAGE
The Monolith collection reflects G.P.Grant’s approach to transforming volcanic obsidian into collectible sculptural objects through precision carving, architectural proportion and material authenticity.
Every Type 15 ashtray is individually carved, polished and hand-finished to preserve exact faceted transitions, uninterrupted reflections and balanced radial symmetry throughout the composition. Extensive manual refinement is required to achieve the sculptural sharpness and reflective continuity characteristic of the Monolith series.
Produced in limited quantities, each piece represents a fusion of volcanic material rarity, sculptural craftsmanship and monolithic contemporary design within a highly distinctive collectible cigar accessory.
