OBSIDIAN CIGAR ASHTRAY TYPE 11 — BLACK, SILVER & MAHOGANY OBSIDIAN
Introducing the Monolith Type 11 cigar ashtray, a sculptural triangular object defined by faceted geometry, recessed surfaces and the reflective depth of natural volcanic glass. The composition is organized through three directional planes converging toward a central elevated axis, forming a balanced architectural structure.
Crafted entirely from black obsidian, silver obsidian or mahogany obsidian, the ashtray reveals the dense reflective character of polished volcanic glass through sharply carved transitions and continuous mirror-like surfaces. The faceted geometry creates dynamic reflections across the object, emphasizing contrast, symmetry and spatial precision.
Designed for three cigars, each recessed rest is integrated directly into the triangular composition, preserving continuity throughout the sculptural form. The engraved G.P.Grant emblem introduces a restrained signature detail without interrupting the purity of the geometry.
Designed for refined cigar interiors, private lounges and collectible spaces, the Monolith Type 11 functions both as a practical cigar accessory and as a contemporary sculptural centerpiece defined by material authenticity and architectural clarity.
The Monolith Type 11 ashtray is defined by a triangular sculptural composition organized around faceted recessed geometry.
Natural obsidian introduces depth, reflection and material intensity through its polished volcanic glass surface. The sharply defined transitions create directional reflections and reinforce the monolithic architectural character of the object.
The three cigar rests are integrated directly into the carved structure, maintaining continuity and geometric balance throughout the composition.
THE ARTISTRY OF MATERIALS
Obsidian (Volcanic Glass) — Origin: Armenia
Armenian obsidian is a dense volcanic glass formed through the rapid cooling of lava, valued for its ability to achieve exceptionally sharp carved edges and deep polished surfaces.
Unlike crystalline stone, obsidian reflects light with almost liquid intensity, making geometric transitions appear sharper and more dramatic. In silver obsidian, natural mineral movement creates flowing metallic-like reflections beneath the surface, while mahogany obsidian reveals layered volcanic tones ranging from deep brown to reddish-black.
For centuries, obsidian was shaped into ceremonial objects, blades and carved artifacts due to its precision and visual depth. In the Monolith collection, the material is transformed into a contemporary sculptural object while preserving its raw geological character.
EXCLUSIVITY & HERITAGE
The Monolith collection represents G.P.Grant’s exploration of architectural form through natural volcanic materials. Each ashtray is individually shaped, polished and finished by hand, requiring extensive precision work to maintain uninterrupted reflective surfaces across complex faceted geometry.
Produced in limited quantities, every piece combines collectible craftsmanship, sculptural presence and functional design. The result is an object that exists equally as a refined cigar accessory and as a contemporary monolithic sculpture carved from natural obsidian.
